Larry worked on ranches, such as the Pit River Ranch, Secret Valley ranch in Lassen County, Diamond Valley Ranch in Harney County and the Lane Ranch in Silver Lake. He was also a logger and timber faller.

For a while Larry was married to Frankie Hall. No children were born to this marriage.

Larry loved life and was one of the last of his kind, a true cowboy and a part of the “Wild Bunch” who for the most part have also passed from the scene.

Larry had a love for the older people and spent many hours playing cards, swapping stories and having a drink or two with them. He was full of respect for his elders and had a special love for his mother. He never had a bad word to say about anyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life, Ester Reed and Robert Thompson.

He is survived by brothers, Randy Pointer of Davis Creek, Richard Pointere of Lakeview, Geoff Pointere of New Pine Creek; sisters, Mary Ann Wells of Klamath Falls and Violet (Vi) Riley of Alturas, Calif.

A celebration of life will be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. with a potluck to follow.

Contributions in Larry’s memory may be made to the New Pine Creek Fire Department, P.O. 117, New Pine Creek 97635 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Desert Rose Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Louella Louise Merrill, 39, died at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014.
