Homer Junior Smith

Homer Junior Smith, 69, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 from complications of Alzheimers. His wife, Loretta and daughter Natalie were with him as he past away.

He was born in Richmond, Calif. on Feb. 12, 1944 to Homer and Myrtle Smith. His family came to Lakeview when Homer was in grade school.

Homer graduated from Lakeview High School in the class of 1962. Homer was a gifted athlete and played on the football, basketball, track and baseball teams. Baseball was his passion. He played on the first Little League team organized in Lakeview and then played Babe Ruth and was selected to an all star team. He played for two years on Lakeview’s American Legion team.

Homer married his high school sweet heart Loretta Jones on Jan. 11, 1963. They were married for 50 years and had two children.

Homer and Loretta moved to Milwaukie and Homer at first worked for his brother-in-law, Floyd Jones, in the Service Station business and then bought his own station. He sold his station after 15 years and went work as a material service technician for Kaiser Hospital System and Providence Hospital until retirement.

He loved to return to Lakeview to fish in Deep Creek and hunt for deer.

Homer was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth, his father Homer and mother Myrtle.

He is survived by his wife Loretta, son Tracy Smith, daughter and son-in-law Natalie and Aaron Beene; grandchildren Tyme and Dolcee Beene; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Floyd Jones and Norma Jewel Jones and Bob Jones and Billie Jones.
