Shirley (Arzner) Estep, 85, passed away Jan. 16, 2014 at the Aspens Assisted Living Community in Hines.
She was born April 23, 1928 to Herman and Millie ( Post ) Arzner in Lakeview. She was the youngest of three children. She married Howard Estep Oct. 1, 1943 and had four children Francis, Gordon, Ron and Cheryl.
Shirley grew up in Lakeview, working in her parents grocery store and then at Lake District Hospital. She moved to Burns in 1961 and continued her career in nursing at Harney District Hospital, retiring after 30 years. She made many long time friends that she worked with and took care of at the hospital.
Shirley was a member of the Lakeview Theta Rho Club of the I.O.O.F until she was initiated into the Lakeview Topaz Rebecca Lodge #22. When that lodge disbanded in November 2003, she transferred her membership to the Burns Sylvia Rebecca Lodge #43. In addition to her Theta Rho membership, she was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of the I.O.O.F for 66 years.
She enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with all of her family, teaching them the outdoor life she loved. She cherished anytime spent with her family and extended family, related or not everyone was family to her. She got the kids to mind by telling them she would take them over her checkerd apron, and then she would laugh. She was always the “GO TO MOM” from cleaning fish, processing wild game or just a shoulder to lean on.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Francis and Linda, Gordon and Linda, Ron and Dorene; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Flint Still, grand-children Gary (Jessica), David (Tina), Denae Crofoot (Shane), Marc (Deb), Micheal (April), Jeremy, Ronnie (Shelly), Shirley Colvin (Phil), Firel (Carla), Dayla Reynolds (Monte), Clint Still (Naomi), LeeAnna Smith (Chris), Janien Rhen (Jerud), And Ariona (Jose), 28 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the Burns Elk Lodge #1680 on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. followed by a potluck. Graveside services will be held in Lakeview at the Odd Fellows Cemetery on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 11 am.
Contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Sylvia Rebecca Lodge #43, Parkinson’s Disease research or a charity of one’s choice.
